The City of Subiaco places great importance on providing spaces where our community can meet, learn and connect.

The Shenton Park Community Centre (SPCC) is one of the three community centres managed by the City. Located at the corner of Herbert and Onslow roads in Shenton Park, it is the City’s most widely used community centre.

The centre opened in 1983, and over the years has been home to the Shenton Park Senior Citizen’s Association, Subiaco-Shenton Park RSL Sub-Branch, Meals on Wheels, Shenton Park Playgroup, and numerous community organisations and groups.

Vision

Through our long-term capital works program the City is re-configuring and re-imagining the SPCC.

The project vision is to enhance the current centre to create a multi-purpose, accessible community space suitable for civic activities, social gatherings, meetings and events to ensure that the centre continues to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Key changes

  • Creation of a modern, fun and safe community space for present and future users to enjoy whilst incorporating elements that reflect and celebrate the community’s heritage and identity.
  • Reduced carbon footprint by retaining, re-imagining, and refurbishing the existing structure in addition to replacement of all gas appliances with 100% renewable energy.
  • Incorporation of bookable storage areas for regular community groups and hirers.
  • Improved accessibility throughout including toilet facilities, multipurpose internal courtyard and enhanced indoor and outdoor connections for people of all abilities.
  • External upgrades providing opportunity for community interaction, engagement and participation including a street facing catering window and activated front courtyard.
  • New hard and soft landscaping throughout including preservation and enhancement of existing tree canopy to create relaxing sitting areas.
  • Amalgamation of Playgroup and Toy Library spaces to achieve greater operational efficiency and amenity for both community groups.
  • Upgraded kitchen facilities that cater to the food preparation requirements of community groups and users.
