FAQs
What is the park hierarchy?
Within our Playspace Strategy the distribution of parklands throughout City of Subiaco is guided by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) defined park hierarchy of local, neighbourhood, or district parks.
Park hierarchy relates to size and expected visitor catchment. Visitors to local or neighbourhood parks are most likely to be people who live within walking or cycling distance. Whereas district park may attract visitors from further afield, and it is reasonable to expect that many visitors will drive to access these larger parks
How does this consultation process work?
In the Stage one consultation survey we want to understand who currently uses the playground and what kinds of elements and features you would like to see there.
We will analyse the feedback from Stage one and supply to playground companies to develop their playground concept design options. Consideration will also be given to the City’s Playspace Strategy, industry guidelines and other factors such as budget.
In Stage two of the engagement process we’ll work with the community to assess the design options and select the preferred playground. If needed, the results of those who took part in Stage one will be used to further refine the results.
When can I use the new playground?
Playground supply and installation is anticipated to happen before the end of the 2024/2025 financial year.
We’ll provide updates here on Have Your Say Subiaco as the project progresses. The current play equipment will be removed and the playground closed for a few weeks during construction.
What has happened to the water play feature?
In all options the current water play feature will be removed. It has been a much loved feature but it has reached the end of its useful life.
This is due to a number of reasons, including the filtration system being disconnected and in need of an upgrade, the continuous flow waterplay concept no longer fits within the City's waterwise focus, and the water attracted a lot of bees which posed an extra risk to those allergic.
I am affiliated with a playground equipment company, can I take part?
If you work or are affiliated with a playground company who is likely to supply a design option for this playground, you are ineligible to take part in the consultation process. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact us here.
How can I ask questions about the project?
To speak to someone in the Parks and Environment Services Team, please contact the Coordinator Parks Development on 9387 0942 or city@subiaco.wa.gov.au (with the subject 'Mueller Park playground renewal').
