Daglish Local Heritage Survey

The City of Subiaco has reviewed the Daglish Precinct Local Heritage Survey (LHS) and is now seeking comment on the draft document.

The Daglish Precinct is the triangular section of land bounded by the railway reserve, Hay Street, Selby Street and Lonnie Street, as shown on the Daglish Precinct map.

The City of Subiaco has a unique history and heritage and one way we record and celebrate it is through the Local Heritage Survey (LHS). The Local Heritage Survey is an information resource that provides a cultural and historical record of the area and tells the story of the development of the district.

What is the Local Heritage Survey (LHS)?

The purpose of an LHS is to:

• identify and record places that are, or may become, of cultural heritage significance in its district
• assist the local government in making and implementing decisions that are in harmony with cultural heritage values
• provide a cultural and historical record of its district
• provide an accessible public record of places of cultural heritage significance to its district
• assist the local government in preparing a heritage list or list of heritage areas under a local planning scheme.

The LHS is not an instrument for development control and the planning scheme provisions currently applicable remain.

Review process

• The places on the existing Daglish LHS were reviewed.
• The City placed a call for nominations for new places to be included. The nomination period closed on 4 December 2023.
• At its OCM on 23 April 2024 (Item C1) Council resolved to endorse the draft LHS for public consultation.

Overall, 35 places and 2 heritage areas are included in the draft reviewed Daglish Precinct LHS. This includes:

• 21 places that are already on the LHS (2 of which are also on the City of Subiaco Heritage List);
• Two heritage areas that are already on the LHS (originally defined as one area in the 2002 LHS and redefined as two separate areas in 2016); and
• 14 new places that have been nominated for inclusion on the LHS

Additionally:

• Two places are proposed to be removed from the LHS as they have been demolished.
• The Daglish Conservation area (included in the LHS in 2002) is also proposed to be removed from the LHS as this is now defined as two separate heritage areas.

How can I be involved in the Daglish Local Heritage Survey (LHS) review?

The City values your feedback on the draft Local Heritage Survey (LHS).

You can:

• Read the draft Local Heritage Survey (LHS) in the document library
• See the Frequently asked questions (FAQs) and information sheets in the document library for more information
• Complete the feedback submission form.
• While this consultation stage is open, you have the opportunity to nominate a place for inclusion in the LHS by completing the LHS nomination form.
• Alternatively you can print and submit a hard copy submission form or hard copy nomination form (located in the document library).

Consultation closes at 5pm on Monday 10 June 2024.

Following the public advertising process, Council will consider the submissions received and any recommended modifications before making a final decision.
