Local Heritage Survey for the West Subiaco Precinct

The City of Subiaco will be will be commencing a review of the Local Heritage Survey (LHS) for the West Subiaco Precinct. The West Subiaco Precinct is the area bounded by Nicholson Road to the south, the railway reserve to the west, Bagot Road to the north and follows the rear boundaries of the Civic and Cultural Precinct and the properties to Rokeby Road.

The purpose of an LHS is to:

  • identify and record places that are, or may become, of cultural heritage significance in its district
  • assist the local government in making and implementing decisions that are in harmony with cultural heritage values
  • provide a cultural and historical record of its district
  • provide an accessible public record of places of cultural heritage significance to its district
  • assist the local government in preparing a heritage list or list of heritage areas under a local planning scheme.

The LHS is not an instrument for development control and the planning scheme provisions currently applicable remain.

How can I be involved?

As part of the review process the City is seeking Expressions of Interest to join a Heritage Reference Group (HRG).
The role of the HRG will be to:

  • Provide a forum for open communication between the community and the City to identify and proactively manage any potential issues and opportunities that arise through the review process.
  • Assist in establishing the consultation/engagement methodology with the wider community.
  • Foster awareness and understanding of the project within the community.
  • Encourage community nominations
  • Assist with the review of nominations
  • Review and provide feedback on the draft LHS

A maximum of 10 community members will be appointed to the HRG. This will be made up of interested persons with a good understanding of heritage and who live in or own property in the West Subiaco Precinct.

Please read the draft Terms of Reference in the document library and complete the Expression of Interest form below.

Appointments to the HRG will be selected from the nominations received by an independent heritage consultant appointed to assist with the review of the LHS.

The closing date for submitting Expressions of Interest is 5pm on Monday 28 June 2021.
