Consultation for this project has now concluded.

Nicholson Road June 2021

About this project

The City of Subiaco aims to be a vibrant, safe and accessible City that is a desirable place for people to live, work and visit. The City has had a request for extra parking on Nicholson Road, between Hensman Road and Rosalie Street. At the Ordinary Council Meeting on 20 October 2020 Council resolved in part that respective stakeholders should be consulted on the development of a holistic streetscape and the costs associated with any changes. The City is seeking your feedback. Traffic calming and footpath upgrade options are included as part of this streetscape design consultation.

The City is seeking feedback on five possible proposals for Nicholson Road.

  • Concept option 1 - Existing streetscape layout. Estimated cost: nil.
  • Concept option 2 - Laneway changed to one way, with four new parking bays. Estimated cost $15,000.

Traffic calming options

  • Concept option 3 - Addition of red asphalt to denote parking areas and new median strip, with two new parking bays. Estimated cost $124,000.
  • Concept option 4 - Addition of two new plateau speed humps, with two new parking bays. Estimated cost $154,000.
  • Concept option 5 - Addition of red asphalt to denote parking areas and new median strip, plus two new plateau speed humps, with two new parking bays. Estimated cost $170,000.

You may be able to find the answer to any question you have in the FAQs and you can see the concept plans in the document library.

If a traffic calming option is endorsed by Council, there may also be changes to the footpath material.

Consultation outcome

More than 250 submissions from residents, local business owners and other community members informed the creation of a modified streetscape improvement design. This design was presented to Council at its November 2021 Ordinary Council Meeting and was endorsed for construction.

The changes will see additional kerbs and nibs installed, an extension to the verge adjacent to the laneway entrance on the northern side of the street, the creation of two additional parking bays, and speed plateaus. No verge trees will be removed as a result of the construction works.

The footpath on the southern side of Nicholson Road between Rosalie Street and Hensman Road will also receive an upgrade as part of the works.

Construction complete - May 2022

Construction for new traffic calming measures on Nicholson Road, between Rosalie Street and Hensman Road, is now complete. This update will help make our roads safer for our community. Thank you again to everyone who participated in this project.
