Consultation has concluded

The City of Subiaco is inviting public comment on its draft Beekeeping Policy.

The policy has been developed to complement the city’s Health Local Laws 1999, which provide that a person shall not keep bees within the City of Subiaco unless approval to do so has been given by the Council.

The objective of the draft Beekeeping Policy is to provide a framework for determining when approval should be granted, to allow responsible beekeeping that does not detract from community safety and amenity. The draft policy also aims to ensure fair, consistent and transparent application of the city’s enforcement powers in relation to bee keeping.

The draft policy can be viewed in the online document library, at the city’s Administration Centre, 241 Rokeby Road Subiaco, or at the Subiaco Library, 237 Rokeby Road, Subiaco, during normal operating times.

Any comments with respect to the draft policy should be submitted in writing through the online submission form, via email to city@subiaco.wa.gov.au or by mail addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, City of Subiaco, PO Box 270, Subiaco WA 6904.

Comments should clearly indicate the name and address of the person making the submission and the policy to which the submission relates. Comments are to be received by 5pm on Wednesday 25 May 2016.

You can read the final policy in the City of Subiaco's Policy Manual here.

If you would like further information on the policy, Ross Buchanan, Coordinator of Environmental Health Services, can be contacted on rossb@subiaco.wa.gov.au or (08) 9237 9222 during working hours.
