Growing a greener Subi

At the City of Subiaco we are well known for our green and leafy city. An urban forest is the collection of green spaces, trees and other vegetation that grow within an urban area, on both public and private land. Together, these green elements provide a range of benefits that enrich the quality of life for those in the area and promote well-being.

The City of Subiaco’s urban forest is a vital urban element that transforms the city’s streets, parks, reserves and properties to provide numerous environmental, social and economic benefits. In the long term, it creates a sense of place and enhances the city.

The objective of the draft Urban Forest Strategy is to create and maintain a fully sustainable urban forest in the City of Subiaco which is both appropriate and well-positioned to ensure it has the opportunity to achieve its horticultural potential with the associated benefits of a thriving urban forest.

This strategy does not set a target for increasing the urban forest canopy, rather, it outlines actions that we can all take, to ensure that the urban forest does not decrease with infill development and that we can apply management strategies to encourage its growth, vitality and sustainability.

How can I be involved?

The city prepared a draft Urban Forest Strategy and invited feedback from the community. Our consultation survey has now closed. Thanks to those who took the time to share their thoughts.

What's next

Feedback was compiled and the draft plan reviewed and presented to council for endorsement and adoption.

The Urban Forest Strategy was approved by council on the 18 September 2018 with some minor changes. These changes were incorporated and the final Urban Forest Strategy 2018-2022 can be viewed on the city’s webpage here.

Many thanks to all who participated in the Urban Forest Strategy consultation.
