Ward and Representation Review 2016

Consultation has concluded

About the project

The Local Government Act 1995 requires a review of wards and representation every eight years.

The city last reviewed its wards and representation ratios in 2009. The impact of the City of Perth Act, which came into effect on 1 July 2016, has triggered the need for the City of Subiaco to review its wards. This is because the Act ceded the City of Subiaco area south of Aberdare Road to the City of Perth. Consequently, City of Subiaco elector numbers reduced; the South Ward lost an elected member; and the flow-on effect to representation ratios resulted in inequitable representation across the district.

In April 2016, Council resolved to exercise the power under Schedule 2.2 of the Local Government Act 1995 to undertake a review of its wards and representation one year earlier than planned.

Council has endorsed consultation for several options, which are outlined in the city’s Review of Wards and Elected Member Representation Discussion Paper which can be viewed in the project's online document library. Alternatively hard copies of the discussion paper are available at the City of Subiaco Administration Centre, 241 Rokeby Road, and the Subiaco Library, corner Rokeby and Bagot roads.

High resolution maps of the ward options outlined in the city’s Review of Wards and Elected Member Representation Discussion Paper can be found in the online project document library.

The city invited written submissions about any aspect of ward boundaries and representation. These public submissions closed at 5pm on Tuesday 11 October 2016.

Public submissions were received in the following ways:

  • completing the online or hard copy submission form that was available at City of Subiaco Administration Centre, 241 Rokeby Road, and the Subiaco Library, corner Rokeby and Bagot roads
  • providing a written submission via mail addressed to City of Subiaco Ward Review 2016, PO Box 270, Subiaco WA 6904
