Subiaco Town Centre Public Realm Design and Streetscape Enhancement Proposal

Feedback for the Subiaco Town Centre Public Realm Design and Streetscape Enhancement Proposal has now closed.

The City of Subiaco has undertaken studies and extensive site analysis of the town centre. A Schematic Design Proposal has been prepared and two major retail streets are the key focus areas for improvements to help activate the city’s streetscapes.

If you are a resident, worker or a regular visitor of Subiaco, we encourage you to get involved and help create an inviting and active Subiaco Town Centre.

We would like to gauge your level of support for the proposal to ensure it reflects community aspirations and to find out if you have a preferred option for the 'demonstration project area'.

There are four information sheets on the right hand side of this page which explain the Schematic Design Proposal, the two detailed design options for the ‘demonstration project area’ and the Preliminary Style Guide.

While you're here, we encourage you to:

• Read the information in the document library on the right hand side of the page
• Check out the frequently asked questions
• Give us your feedback

    Background

There is a large number of Council and business initiatives that precede the Subiaco Town Centre Public Realm Design and Streetscape Enhancement Proposal, including the preparation of a Local Planning Strategy and the creation of a Subiaco Activity Centre Structure Plan for the town centre and its immediate surrounds. During the preparation of these documents, workshops were held to establish a vision for the future of Subiaco.

Outcomes from these workshops suggested work in the public realm to improve and activate the streetscapes. This was recognised by Council through the adoption of a ‘place driven’ approach to its future planning, which included the development of a plan for the public realm and streetscape in the town centre. Parallel to this is the declaration of the Rokeby Road and Hay Street Conservation Area. It is the city’s practice for conservation areas to also develop a streetscape plan to ensure that works in the public realm are in keeping and respectful of the identified character and values.

    Schematic Design Proposal

Following preceding studies and extensive site analysis of the project area, a Schematic Design Proposal has been prepared. The area encompasses the two major retail streets of the Subiaco Town Centre (Hay Street and Rokeby Road) and their intersections with Bagot Road, Park Street, Barker Road, Churchill Avenue, Seddon Street and Roberts Road.

The proposal includes two detailed design options for the ‘demonstration project area’ on Rokeby Road between Hay Street and Roberts Road. Short term implementation of the Schematic Design Proposal is envisaged for this area, based on a Preliminary Style Guide that shows possible materials and colours for the street surface, street elements and furniture. It should be noted that no details have been provided on these individual elements. The style guide includes examples that are subject to further consideration and design.
